About The Agency:

MDWFP's mission is to conserve and enhance Mississippi’s wildlife, fisheries, and parks and to provide quality outdoor recreation for all.

Dr. Sam Polles, Executive Director to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks is one of the Nation's longest serving Executive Heads of a natural resource agency. Appointed in 1992 by former governor Kirk Fordice, Dr. Polles has provided continued leadership for the development and implementation of a well defined strategic plan. This plan has ensured efficiency in the agency's operations and quality in the delivery of services to the sporting public.

A lifelong outdoor enthusiast, Dr. Polles is a strong believer in reaching out to all user groups in an effort to expose as many Mississippians as possible to the joy of outdoor recreation. Under his leadership, the agency has devised a wide range of programs to increase the participation of youth, women and ethnic minorities to natural resource management and recreation. The scope of his vision and commitment to conserving and protecting this State’s abundant resources has made the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks a national leader in conservation.

Dr. Polles credits the agency's success to a dedicated staff of professionals who are committed to public service and to the preservation of the State's natural resources.
