Proper Stand Placement for Whitetails
Morning stands should face west, so the sun will rise at your back. When the deer comes to the morning stand, it will be looking into the sun, and the deer will be less likely to see you.
Face your afternoon stand to the east. Then the sun will be at the deer's face when it comes to the stand. You can hunt from this stand if the wind is blowing to the north, south or east. Hunt from each one of your stands before the season begins without a bow or a gun but only after ridding your body, clothes and equipment of much odor as possible.
Become familiar with the deer in your area to make sure your stand is within range of how the deer move. Scout for deer using binoculars or a spotting scope to keep your human odor away from the stand site. Mark down every direction the deer come from, how far they are from the stand, and which deer you want to take.
