Ronnie Smith grew up south of Leeds, Alabama between Lake Purdy and Double Oak Mountain. The community he grew up in was mostly relatives and close friends that made hunting and fishing "a way of life". The region of small farms, hardwood ridges and bottoms allowed Ronnie the perfect place to practice outdoor skills at an early age. Neighbors recall Ronnie at age nine calling hoot owls at night, winning a laugh from his mom and a pat on the back from his dad. He was able to harvest game and fish on a consistent basis at such an early age that all who knew him said he was "a natural". With encouragement from his family and confidence from early success, Ronnie has evolved into one of the country's true premier outdoorsmen.
