Rex Hunt is Australia’s greatest fisherman and known internationally for famously kissing his catch.

Rex has been a TV and radio star for 25 years and his Rex Hunt's Fishing World program is currently screened in 158 countries, including the USA.

Rex is widely credited with changing public views on releasing unwanted fish by kissing every fish he catches.

Born in Melbourne, Australia on the shores of Port Phillip Bay on the 7th March 1949, Rex learned to fish when he was seven-years-old. Rex developed an early love of the sea with his first catch being a prized garfish off a local pier in 1950.

At 16, Rex realized his strength and passion for Australian Rules Football (AFL). He amassed 202 senior Victorian Football League games with teams Richmond, Geelong and St Kilda, and played in two Premierships with Richmond. When Rex retired from football, he pursued a career in both fishing and AFL broadcasting. The Rex Hunt Fishing Radio Show started on 3DB in 1982. It continues to be broadcast today, 25 years later, on Radio 3AW in Melbourne.

In 1992 Rex started a series called Rex Hunt's Fishing World, screened on commercial television in Melbourne. The late-night slot proved popular and the program was moved to primetime Saturday where it screened for 13 years. Today, Rex Hunt's Fishing World is screened in 158 countries including the USA.

A dedicated conservationist, Rex was instrumental in removing 87 scallop dredge boats from Port Phillip Bay in order to improve fishing in the Bay.

Rex is a board member of the Rex Hunt Future Fish Foundation, which uses its resources to protect and enhance water habitats, and assist disadvantaged persons participate in recreational fishing. In 2003 the Rex Hunt Future Fish Foundation released its 1 millionth fish into Victorian waters.

Thanks to his “colourful” commentary style – Rex holds the number 1 AFL radio broadcaster spot on 3AW. Rex continues his work with his Future Fish Foundation and is a sought-after public speaker.
