Halfdoc Outdoors is the realization of a life long dream. From a very early age the outdoors has been a passion of mine, ok, an obsession. When other kids were waking up early to watch cartoons on a Saturday morning, I was tuning into the Red Fisher Show, dreaming of someday being the guy that everyone would tune in to watch. I would ask Santa for a new fishing rod or life jacket, not some toy. Some of my fondest childhood memories were the hours I spent with my Grandpa in his little 12 foot boat, trolling spoons in many southern Saskatchewan lakes. Those weekends could not come soon enough, or often enough for me. It wasn't until my family and I moved to Brandon, Manitoba that my fishing kicked into high gear. There I could ride my bike EVERY day to the river with my rods and 50lb tackle box at my side .Oh, the fish I caught in that river! To this day, river fishing is still my favorite place to fish. As I closed in on the legal hunting age the daydreams of hunting would preoccupy my thoughts while in school. Since neither one of my parents are hunters, I was looking forward to taking on this new adventure with my Grandpa. Unfortunately, we were never able to step one foot afield together. Grandpa's passing meant I would have to wait till I was 18 and legally allowed to hunt on my own. I remember that first hunt, it was a rabbit hunt. A buddy and I armed with .22's and a HUGE vhs camcorder to capture our hunt. From that day on hunting and filming the hunt was what made me, me. I have been very fortunate to have found a wife that not only understands my "need" to fish, hunt and video it all. She tags along as camera women on hunts and more than holds her own on any fishing adventure. In 2000 our son Zach (Halfdoc jr) was born. He has been on bear hunts since he was a few months old and every fishing trip you can imagine. Having landed his first fish at 3 years old (a 2lb pike, which I have mounted) he has never looked back. It looks like the outdoor gene has been passed on. Fishing, shooting and hunting (especially gophers) has preoccupied all of his spare time. My outdoors experience has changed from being the hunter & fisherman, to the teacher and videographer. There is no better feeling in the world than seeing your son land that trophy pike or harvest his first ever animal. I only hope I can capture and share this feeling for you all to enjoy, as well as many other great outdoor experiences we partake in. This is Halfdoc Outdoors.
