December 12, 2007 (Nashville) - MyOutdoorTV.com is expressing its thanks to troops serving our country by organizing a gift drive, "Operation Sporting Thanks," to benefit soldiers serving overseas during the holiday season. Along with several outdoor industry donors, MyOutdoorTV.com is providing gifts to be shipped by military transport to two deployed US Army units in time for Christmas.
The idea originated with CPT Philip Goddard, a friend of a MyOutdoorTV.com employee, who wanted to make sure his fellow soldiers were remembered during the holidays and knew they would enjoy gifts from the outdoors industry. "Having support from an organization such as MyOutdoorTV.com is great, particularly because it represents the outdoor activities, such as hunting and fishing, that so many of the soldiers enjoy and miss so much while deployed," said CPT Goddard. "Just knowing that people back home remember their efforts and sacrifices, particularly during the holiday season, is the most significant contribution we can provide to the men and women serving overseas."
Among the outdoor industry donors to "Operation Sporting Thanks" are: Gerber Legendary Blades, Otis Technology, OSP Shooting School, Cabela's, Intermedia Outdoors, TTI Blakemore/TJ Stallings, NSSF, Cobra Archery, State of Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, and Shooting USA.
The gift packages will be sent to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment "NightStalkers" and the 4th Assault Helicopter Battalion of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, based out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia, both serving overseas. The packages will be shipped on a military aircraft next week.
"We're appreciative both to the troops who are making a great sacrifice to serve our country overseas, especially when they can't be with their loved ones during this season, and to the industry friends who were eager to participate in ‘Operation Sporting Thanks,'" said Chris Moise, CEO. "It has been a gratifying year for MyOutdoorTV.com, and we're glad to have this small way to give something back."
