Lake Taneycomo Trout Fishing Turns 50 |
|
Friday, 07 March 2008 |
JEFFERSON CITY-For 50 years, Missourians have been thrilling to the
electric sensation of a surging trout at the ends of their lines at
Lake Taneycomo. Now moving into its second half-century, Taneycomo's
trout fishery is more productive than ever, supplying not only fishing
thrills for visitors to the White River lake, but brown trout for the
entire Show-Me State.
At 2,080 acres, Lake Taneycomo is dwarfed
by its neighbors - 43,100-acre Table Rock Lake immediately upstream and
45,000-acre Bull Shoals Lake immediately downstream. However, its
location makes it unique among the White River reservoirs that stitch
together southwestern

Indiana Hunters Succeed in '07 Despite Deer Disease |
|
Wednesday, 05 March 2008 |
|
Record reports of a viral disease affecting white-tailed deer
seemed to have minimal impact on the 2007 hunting seasons in Indiana, as hunters
harvested 124,427 deer.
"The big thing for me was that number," said Chad Stewart, deer
research biologist for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. "We were
guessing the harvest was going to be down a lot more than it was this
year."
Stewart provides details of the '07 season in an annual report
that includes a county-by-county

Northeastern Minnesota’s Moose Population Continues to Decline |
|
Wednesday, 05 March 2008 |
An aerial survey conducted in January estimates that the number of moose in northeastern Minnesota increased from 6,600 in 2007 to 7,600 in 2008, but the long-term trend suggests that Minnesota's moose herd remains in decline, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
"At first glance, the raw numbers appear to suggest that the population has increased," said Dr. Mark Lenarz, DNR wildlife researcher. "The margin of error, however, overlapped between years, which means that there was no significant change in the number of moose this year."

Wisconsin Wildlife Adapted to Surviving Cold, Snowy Winters |
|
Wednesday, 05 March 2008 |
|
GREEN BAY- Despite record breaking snowfalls in southern Wisconsin
and cold temperatures statewide, hunters and residents should not be
alarmed about this winter's impacts on wildlife, according to state
wildlife officials.
Department of Natural Resources offices have been receiving many
inquires about how deer, wild turkey, and other species are surviving
the winter. This winter has actually been closer to normal for
Wisconsin, they note, compared to the exceptionally mild winters in
recent years, and deer and turkey populations have evolved to withstand
these varying conditions.

|
Sunday, 02 March 2008 |
GAINESVILLE, Ga. (February 29, 2008) - Anxious anglers anticipating the mild weather ahead this spring can kick-off the fishing season with a trip to the waters of north Georgia to pursue walleye. According to Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Wildlife Resources Division (WRD), once water temperatures reach 50 degrees, annual walleye spawning begins, making mid-to-late March the prime time for targeting walleye in Georgia. For the past seven years, the Summerville, Burton and Walton WRD hatcheries staff have made great strides in their efforts to increase walleye stocking numbers, resulting in more concentrated walleye fishing opportunities.
