Team Silverman Hangs On For ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series Win
CHARLESTON, South Carolina - When Day One leaders Ron and Steven Silverman checked in Sunday at the Seabreeze Marina, they thought their lead might vanish when the final totals were posted in the ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series presents Lowcountry Red Trout Celebrity Classic.

The father-and-son team won this event in 2004 and Ron Silverman was the Grand Champion Angler that year.

But when they heard that their guide from Saturday, Chris Wilson, had helped his team of Tom Stokes and Rhett Denton catch 37 redfish and 4 sea trout Sunday, the Silvermans figured any hopes of another title were gone.

Stokes, who is from Charleston, and Denton, of Chapin, S.C., didn't have any idea who won. That's because Sunday was their first day on the water. They were fishing as part of a four-man team representing Sanders Brothers Construction Co.

Brooklyn Woman Survives Guyana Boat Accident

GEORGETOWN, Guyana—An American woman survived a deadly boat accident in Guyana by clinging to a bucket that helped keep her afloat in the muddy river for a day and a half, police said Monday.

Sherry Campayne-Haynes, 40, traveled to her native South American country to scatter her brother's ashes in the Corentyne River, where the wooden speedboat capsized near sunset Friday. Six other people died, including the Brooklyn woman's sister and a nephew, according to Deputy Police Commander Simon McBean.Campayne-Haynes was still holding the 5-gallon plastic bucket when she reached a sandbank Sunday morning, a friend said.

"She is taking back that plastic bucket and the life jacket to New York for keeps," family friend Guy Wilson said from a hotel where Campayne-Haynes was recovering from the ordeal.

The boat capsized at the river's mouth, near the border with Suriname, after getting tangled in a fishing net. Campayne-Haynes was one of only two survivors. A boat hand, Leslie Austin, swam ashore and alerted authorities Friday night.
