Better Than Live Bait

In viewing the Sooner or later it happens to the best of us. No matter what lure you tie on the fish won't bite. You've emptied your tacklebox and still, nothing works. The answer to this bane of fishing is using the real thing, as in live bait.

Nothing fools a fish quicker than the telltale scent, true likeliness and natural action of its everyday source of food. Yet getting the goods these days can be a challenge. When's the last time you stopped at a roadside bait shop, minnow bucket and cricket cage in hand, to stock up on the goods? Probably not often in this world built around convenience and sadly, the disappearance of the classic roadside bait shop.

mooringsboatChartering puts specific demands on a sailboat. First and foremost, the boat must be able to sail, and it must do so safely in a variety of venues. Moreover, a successful charter boat must be attractive to owners, offer a layout that charter guests want, and be rugged enough to endure a quantity of usage hours that few boats see in a year, all the while providing the charter company with revenue.

Berkley has the solution to the live bait conundrum and it comes in a jar the size of which fits in your pocket, fishing vest or corner of your tacklebox. Gulp! Alive! Panfish Baits are perfect for teasing crappie, bluegill, perch or trout into believing it's the real thing. No refrigeration, no aerators, no minnow buckets or foul dead bait.

Gulp! Alive! went retail just weeks ago. It comes in 1" Minnow Heads, 1" Fish Fry and 1 1/2" Jigging Grubs. We tried the latter bait on a recent pond trip and discovered two things. First, we didn't find ourselves chasing crickets that slipped from hand before impaling to hook. Second, the Jigging Grub outperformed the live crickets we tried time and time again.

The Jigging Grub works great on jigs, dropshots and plain hooks, the latter form used by us on the pond. What we didn't know is the jar is supercharged with Gulp! Alive! attractant, allowing you to recharge baits after use. On an eco-friendly note, Gulp! Alive! is biodegradable with 400 times more scent dispersion than live bait.

Don't get us wrong about live bait. The action and scent of a nervous minnow, cricket or worm is undeniable. But you still have to keep them dry, wet, cool or combinations of all three or they'll loose their effectiveness. As for us, we'll spend less time fussing over finding and caring for a dozen minnows, cage of crickets and box of worms and more time fishing, using the convenience and potency of Gulp! Alive!
