The Perfect Used Gun Many hunters and shooters are taking a break from the outdoors during these winter days and walking the floors of gun shows. These are great events where you can look at ammunition, handle rifles, shotguns and handguns, and possibly make a great buy. How can you tell if the gun is a bargain, or fit to be purchased?
You can also shake any firearm and listen for loose parts, operate the action, try chambering a round or empty case, and take it apart to some degree and inspect the action and barrel's interior surfaces. Any rusty or dirty surfaces should be cause for concern. User Reviews

The first indicator is to look at the exterior. If you see rust, dents, scratches and worn areas where the bluing is absent and the silver metal shines, that gun has been used. If it has been well used and abused, the chances are great that the key working components inside have also been neglected and will not work properly-or possibly need repairs. If you spot a shiny, like-new shotgun in the box and the manual is there along with a plug and several chokes, chances are the owner took care of it.
