Proper Camo Selection for Whitetail Success (Video Included)
Outdoor Answer: According to Outdoor Answer’s Jim Carbaugh, camo selection is key to success. Watch his video and then read below about the details.
“Every outdoorsman wants to have the best camo in the field,” he observes. “The question is, with so many patterns available, how do you know which one to choose? Considerations of your hunting environment and understanding what animals see will provide you with the answer. It’s important to select a camouflage that matches the natural markings, backgrounds, and objects in the area you will hunt. The camo must break up the outline of you’re figure and blend with the surroundings. Avoid patterns that are too busy for the environment you are in. A high concentration of contrasting shades can be spotted by the game.”
He continues, “To gain perspective, look at you’re camouflage from a distance as opposed to close up, allowing you to see what the animals will see. Unlike deer and elk, turkeys have the ability to see color. By choosing camo that incorporates earth tones, you will have a pattern that’s effective in multiple seasons. You can’t become invisible but you can become unrecognizable.”
