Setting A Trail Camera for Whitetails (Video Included)
Outdoor Answer: According to Outdoor Answer’s Jim Carbaugh, trail cameras can give you an edge in highly pressured hunting areas. Watch his video and then read below about the details.
“As hunting season approaches, don’t forget to incorporate the use of trail cameras to monitor your favorite hunting areas,” he suggests. “These cameras can provide you with feeding and travel patterns of deer, as well as the timing of these movements.”
“When entering a possible sight for setup, approach downwind and be sure to avoid walking in the path of a deer. Cover your scent by using rubber gloves, boots, and some form of scent killer.”
He continues, “Place your camera about 3 feet off the ground and about 10-20 feet away form the major trail. This range will allow or the best possible picture. Make sure the tree you’re using is sturdy enough to prevent movement and clear away any brush or leaves that are in the areas that may falsely trigger the cameras motion sensor.”
“Do not place your camera facing east or west, this will avoid direct sunlight and over exposing your film. Finish by loading your film and follow any directions that pertain to your particular make and model.”
