Turkey Weather (Video Included)
Wade's World Hunting: My all-time favorite condition for turkey hunting is under a high pressure system. A high barometer makes gobblers want to gobble.
Conversely, I avoids days with gusty, high winds. High winds will send turkeys into the bottom of hollows, making it hard to not only find them, but to hear them.
A lot of hunters go back to bed if they wake up to a rain, I think that is a big mistake.
A gentle rain will bring turkeys out into freshly plowed fields, where they will rummage for insects. Conversely, a hard, cold rain is a good reason to stay home.
However, one of my most memorable hunts was during a thunderstorm. It was a gentle rain with loud claps of thunder that made the turkeys gobble like crazy.
My advice? Just go, rain or shine.
