Turkey Call Switch-up

Harold Knight of Kentucky is a partner in the Knight & Hale Game Call Co., and he's one of the very best wild turkey callers and hunters in the country.

turkeyA lot of turkey hunters, Knight included take an assortment of calls into the woods each time they go. Knight believes this is because a gobbler can be picky when it comes to responding to one type call over another.

"Some days they'll answer a box call and they won't answer anything else," he says. "The next day, I can take a mouth diaphragm and they won't answer anything else. Lots of times, I‘ll start out in the morning with a friction type call, a little different pitch is all he wants."

He adds, "I've called a turkey with my mouth call, he answer me, but if I'm not getting anywhere with him, I move and reposition myself. I'm not going to use that same call, I'm going to use some kind of a friction call."
