The turkeys will come to you if you implement these calls...
Creek Calling Gobbler (Video Included)
Wade's World Hunting: Scenario: A wild turkey gobbler has answered your call, but he’s across a creek or deep gully that you cannot cross. How do you set up and attempt to call him across this natural barrier to ground travel?
- First, this is not an impossible situation. Sometimes a gobbler will fly across a creek or gully, especially if he’s a sub-dominant bird looking for a hen.
- Set up directly across the creek or gully from the gobbler around 60-75 yards from the impediment.
- Set up where you can see him fly.
- Start calling sequence with combination of cutting and yelping to get gobbler to respond.
- Call according to his response level. If he’s hot, give him more. If he’s reticent, let him know you’re there, then shut up.
- If he flies across the creek or gully and lands out of range, don’t call again. Wait him out. He knows where “the hen” is, and he will eventually come to her.
