Well it is finally here, the transition between the ice of winter and the melt of spring. During this time the water conditions can best be described by most anglers as, high and murky and often not attractive to the boatless angler. These are the conditions however, that drive one of the most popular panfish close to shore in high numbers. This popular panfish for both the sport and the dinner table is of course the crappie!

Well, we finally made it to part seven of our spinner bait series and who knows – perhaps we saved the best for last?

There are many ways to fish for trout. Every angler has their own preference whether it’s fly fishing, casting, trolling, drifting from a boat or float fishing. These are all great ways for catching trout. Why do they work?

Musky are often referred to as the fish of a thousand casts, but that's not always so. Muskies are in fact readily available! Here's how you can land your share of muskies.

Hello again fellow anglers. This is part three of the "importance of boat control", where we will be concentrating on trolling. Trolling is yet another method which can be very productive and the bonus is that anyone can easily do it.

There are a few key general things to keep in mind when top water fishing. Although you can fish top water at any time, early mornings & evenings seem to outperform. Also, your odds of catching fish on top water are much higher if the water is calm. This allows your lure to really "show its stuff".

Hi folks, in my opinion, catfish caught in early spring are great eating. Their flesh is firm and sweet. I like to target brown bullheads since they are plentiful in my area.

If you plan on using heavy monofilament or heavy fluorocarbon line, such as over 20-pound test or heavier, you may want to consider buying a bait casting reel instead of a spinning reel. This type of heavy line will retain memory and come off your spool like a coil of wire.
It will become "springy" and bounce off your spool, rather than flow smoothly from your spool. And it will be very susceptible to tangling and not to mention it will be annoying to use.

I made this Seafood/Fish salad recently & brought it in to work. It was enjoyed so much by all, that I thought I would share the recipe with you. This is a very fast and simple way to prepare your catch of the day, with the end result being absolutely delicious.

Sea bass are one of the prime, most sought-after fish in saltwater. They are a powerful, strong fighting fish which makes them fun to catch. In addition, sea bass are also one of the tastiest fish around and make for great table fare.

We've talked about fishing reels, so it seems only natural to talk a bit about rods. What rod should you be using & under which application?

"What determines how many guides are used on a rod"

That's a very good question. I don't know if there is an actual set formula that fishing rod manufactures use, but in my view, I would have to say that the number of guides would be determined by a couple of factors. One, being to achieve precision casting and the other would be line control with respect to the rod.

What's one of the first things people do when evaluating a fishing rod? They typically check the action. Whatever you do, do not grab the end of a fishing rod and bend it or flex it. This will put a direct strain on the fishing rod, which it is not made to handle and you could break the rod. (If you think about it, if you're fighting a fish, or pulling on a snag, the load is spread evenly throughout the length of the rod).

Have you ever tried eating pike? If you have, you'll probably agree that it's delicious. Baked, batter fried or grilled are some ways to enjoy this fish. Many pike which are caught by anglers are quickly released, knowing that pike are too bony and therefore not worth cleaning. Another reason for not cleaning a pike is the simple fact that many anglers just don't know how.
