Downward Archery (Video Included)

Outdoor Answer: According to Outdoor Answer’s Jim Carbaugh, consistent bow accuracy is a key to success during archery season. Watch his video and then read below about the details.

“Consistent archery accuracy is challenging enough,” he observes. “Then, throw in a tree-stand with a steep downward angle and your archery outlook is bleak.”

“I’m here to tell you there’s hope. A little slack, slight bend and a straight line can make that downward shot a bit easier. Increase angled slack requires more slack in your harness tether than typical scenarios. Once you’re strapped into your stand, take a few practice draws at steep angles to insure you have enough line without getting tangled.”

He continues, “During a shot, keep your upper body on the same plane as the bows, by bending at the waist, match the bow angle. This will maintain the 3-point anchor with the string on your nose, the kisser-button at the corner of your mouth, and a straight line of vision through the peep sight. Finish off your perfect shot with the proper follow-through. Do not move your bow until the arrow has reached the target; this will prevent the arrow from shooting low. Keep things straight on those angled shots!
