Constitutional Right
November election ballots in many states will include a constitutional right to hunt bill. Here's the version proposed for Tennessee.
Fourteen states have already guaranteed the rights of their residents to fish and hunt, due in part to the growing movement by animal rights activist groups against the outdoor pursuits. The Tennessee legislation, up for vote on Nov. 2, reads:
"The citizens of this state shall have the personal right to hunt and fish, subject to reasonable regulations and restrictions prescribed by law. The recognition of this right does not abrogate any private or public property rights, nor does it limit the state's power to regulate commercial activity. Traditional manners and means may be used to take non-threatened species."
Leading the Tennessee effort is the Tennessee Wildlife Federation. Click here to access the Web site dedicated to the issue.
