About the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission
The Florida Fish and WildlifeConservation Commission (FWC) is responsible for conserving and managing fish, wildlife and habitats – including Florida’s many endangered and threatened animals. We meet our responsibility with a combination of law enforcement, research, management and outreach.
The FWC protects and manages over 570 species of wildlife and 700 species of freshwater and saltwater fish. Wise management and use of these resources are crucial to Florida, its 18 million residents and millions of annual visitors – evidenced by the fact that hunting, commercial and sport fishing, wildlife viewing and boating contribute nearly $30 billion annually to the state’s economy, providing jobs for 330,000 Floridians.
