The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources help guard Alabama's Marine, forest, public land, and outdoor resources for ethical recreational and commercial use and for tomorrow's enjoyment.

Alabama's state lands serve the state in so many ways. From recreation to industry, Alabama's state parks preserve and maintain the outdoor heritage of the state.

The Alabama Conservation Advisory Board, created by statute, is composed of 10 members appointed by the governor for alternating terms of six years, and three ex-officio members in the persons of the governor, the commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, and the director of the Alabama Cooperative Extension system.

Outdoor Alabama is a 30-minute show that presents
Alabama’s abundance of natural resources and recreational opportunities to a nationwide audience of outdoor enthusiasts. Each show features exciting hunting and fishing experiences in Alabama and also highlights the Department of Conservation’s programs, facilities and activities. The “Did You Know?” segment presents interesting facts and figures about the state’s natural resources. The “Destination Showcase” profiles Alabama State Parks and other sites that can be enjoyed by residents and tourists. The “Conservation Triumph” segment documents the many conservation success stories like the return of the Eastern bluebird, the nesting success of bald eagles and the growing populations of deer and turkey under the expert management of wildlife biologists.

Host

Kevin Dodd’s interest in the outdoors began at an early age. Some of his first memories are of watching his father clean fish and squirrels and of riding his father’s shoulders on safari adventures in the woods. “All things living instilled a burning fascination in me,” he said.

Kevin credits a school teacher/mentor with focusing his early love of the outdoors into a meaningful and productive career. “Conservation law enforcement is the most basic form of wildlife management and has proven to be a most rewarding profession.”

Kevin now relishes the opportunity to share the outdoors with his children. “My personal goals have now turned to nurturing the love of outdoors in my own children. I hope that they, too, come to realize how richly blessed Alabamians are with respect to our abundant and diverse wildlife resources.”

Kevin is also excited about sharing Alabama’s great outdoors with a national television audience through Outdoor Alabama television. “This is a wonderful opportunity. I think many viewers will be surprised at what Alabama has to offer in the way of outdoor recreation. I’m thrilled to be a part of Outdoor Alabama.”
