Maine is well known for its wealth of natural resources, and abundance of wildlife. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is one of the smallest state agencies, yet we are responsible for overseeing a state so vast, it is nearly as large as the rest of New England combined. The 300 employees of our agency are entrusted with an annual budget of 32 million dollars and strive to protect the resources so vital to our state’s economy. Hunting, fishing and wildlife watching are important industries in the State; in fact, they have a combined economic impact of over $1.1 billion dollars. We protect and preserve the state’s natural resources, and make sure you are safe when you are out enjoying the woods and waters of this magnificent state. We also ensure, through careful management, that our state's fish and wildlife resources will be there for generations to come, and that Maine will continue to be a special place for those who live or visit here.
