Bore Sighting A Rifle (Video Included)
According to Outdoor Answer's Jim Carbaugh the importance of bore-sighting a rifle cannot be overlooked. "Whether you are setting up a new scope, or simply making a few tweaks, bore sighting a rifle is an ideal step for establishing a starting point for all other sight adjustments," he says.
"Before starting, make sure the gun is not loaded. Set up a target at 25 yards and secure the rifle with a sandbag rest. Remove the bolt so you can see through the barrel, line up the target in the center of the barrel."
For next steps, he says that, "Without moving the gun, adjust the crosshairs to the target. Load the gun and fire a shot at the target from 25 yards. You should be on the target and within about 3 inches of the bull's-eye. Reposition the target back on the rest and align it so the crosshairs are centered on the target. This time, with the gun held in place, adjust the site so they line up with the mark held from the previous shot. With the corrections made, fire a second shot to ensure accurate sighting."
