Archery Mechanics (Video Inluded)
According to Outdoor Answer’s Jim Carbaugh, aiming sometimes takes a backseat to the importance of simple mechanics.
“Aiming, it’s overrated. Aligning the sites can make you more accurate, but steady archery mechanics plays a greater role in your performance,” he opines.“Establish consistency by always aligning your feet perpendicular to the target. Give yourself a solid foundation. Apply a constant pressure straight toward the target with your bow arm. Use enough force to keep the arms stable but not locked tight. Keep your wrists low and bent backwards so the heel of your palm supports the bow grip, relax your fingers. Your release arm should maintain a continuous backward pressure until the arrow is fired. Do not hesitate with the release.”
He continues, “A smooth, even follow-through will result in a clean release and an accurate shot. If you struggle with balancing the weight during your draw and release, consider adding a stabilizer to the bow. It’s all about bow-basics, good form facilitates desirable outcomes.”
